Kerem Shalom of Concord invites the community to join us as we celebrate Erev Shabbat: Spiritually Preparing for the Yamim Noraim (Days of Awe).

Throughout this month of Elul, it is our task to be engaged in a process of deep, introspection and reflection on who we have been over the past year, and who we want to become during the upcoming year. Jewish tradition refers to this process as “Teshuvah.”

This Shabbat service is the last Shabbat before Rosh HaShanah and the New Year. We will take the opportunity to engage in some of the melodies and prayers of the High Holy Days, as well as engage in conversation about how we can make real practical sense out of some of the complex themes of the High Holy Days.

Learning and preparing together will help us to do teshuvah and reorient ourselves into the direction we wish to head individually and communally as we approach Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur.

We will also have the opportunity to hear the shofar sounded in preparation for Rosh HaShanah and to sing the words of the Psalm for this season, “Psalm 27, Achat Sha’alti.”

Because of the conversational nature of our gathering and preparation, this evening’s Selichot and Erev Shabbat service, the final Shabbat of the year will be in-person only. We look forward to sharing this sacred Shabbat space together.
