Join us for a presentation followed by a Q&A on the film “Where Neon Goes to Die” with film writer David Weintraub.

Using never-before-seen video, film and still images, “Where Neon Goes to Die” reconstructs the lost epoch of Yiddish culture of Miami Beach. The first large Jewish migration to Miami Beach began after World War II. Given that the Army Air Corps was trained at Miami Beach hotels (they had been requisitioned by the military for military housing during the war), soldiers became intimately familiar with “resort life.” Vets as well as retirees who visited the area of vacation after the war “got sand in their shoes” and settled here, bringing with them centuries of their cultural life from the old country.
