Throughout Jewish history and into the present day, Jewish perspectives on the nature of God have shifted and evolved. In this class, we’ll dip our toes into this history via song, liturgy, text study and embodied practices. We’ll also encourage learners to share stories about their spiritual journeys and provide opportunities for introspection and discussion.

The goal is to introduce students to a diversity of Jewish theological perspectives (from Torah, liturgy, Hassidut and contemporary theologians) while also helping them navigate this theology in a meaningful way. Seekers of all backgrounds are welcome, as are non-believers and believers, skeptics and anyone with an interest in one of the grandest and most confusing aspects of human life and religion.

This course takes place on Oct. 18, 25; Nov. 1, 8, 15, 22; Dec. 6, 13.

Akiva Nelson is a rabbinical student at Hebrew College. A dedicated meditation practitioner and song leader, he’s studied Jewish text, prayer and mysticism in communities like Pardes Institute, Nava Tehila, Romemu Yeshiva, Yeshivat Hadar and Jewish Theological Seminary.
