Klezmer. Scottish. Jazz. Latin. Chamber Music. Funk. What do these genres have in common? Find out when Ezekiel’s Wheels Klezmer Band and progressive Scottish band Alba’s Edge join forces for an evening of traditional music as you’ve never heard it before. The show takes place at 8:00pm on Sunday June 1st at Club Passim in Harvard Square. Tickets are $15 (members $13).

Internationally-recognized klezmer ensemble Ezekiel’s Wheels brings passion, virtuosity, and contagious energy to every performance. The Wheels improvise with the intimacy of chamber music and the intensity of a rowdy dance band. They are equally at home on the stage of the International Jewish Music Festival, where judges heralded them as “a true musical democracy,” as in the classroom, where sixth-grade student Jonathan raised his hand to tell them, “Y’all got swag.”

Hailed as “a wonderful concoction” on BBC Radio Scotland and fresh off a US consulate sponsored tour of Mexico, Alba’s Edge is ready to rock the house with their unique brand of Jazz and Latin infused Scottish music. The quartet is headed up by brother-sister powerhouse Lilly and Neil Pearlman on Scottish fiddle and piano, and is rounded out with the Latin/Jazz drumming of Jacob Cole and Funk bass stylings of Doug Berns. Their music draws on Jazz harmony and improvisation and Latin/Funk grooves to express the vitality, fire and beauty inherent in Scottish traditional melodies.
