Gadi Ezra headed the Laws of War desk at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he advised policy makers and diplomats on humanitarian law, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, human rights and sanctions regimes.  Gadi has a unique perspective as both a human rights attorney on the one hand, and a Special Forces combatant on the other.

Gadi earned three law degrees, specializing in the Laws of War, Human Rights and Public Law, from both Tel-Aviv University and NYU School of Law.

During his studies at Tel-Aviv, Gadi was recruited to fight in Operation Cast Lead, in which his Special Forces team was among the first ground units to enter the Gaza Strip. Drawing from his personal experience as well as his strong academic and practical background as a human rights attorney, Gadi examines the complexities of applying the Laws of War norms’ in actual combat, while illustrating these challenges with real-world examples which he experienced first-hand. Moreover, his lecture exemplifies the harsh dilemmas soldiers face, and the high standards they purport to apply despite the occasional silence of the law.

Gadi was lately selected by Forbes Magazine as one of the most influential young leaders in Israel under the age of 30.
