SVIVAH has been wanting to talk about this topic for a long time. And given some of the more recent headlines of communal betrayals and abuses, it seems like the right time for this conversation.

That doesn’t mean we’re not terrified of this topic.

It is so huge. So raw. So real. So, so, so important. We want to get it right. Because there are lives and hearts and souls enmeshed in every conversation about this.

Join us for “HerTorah: Purim + #MeToo: Shining Light on Violence Against Women in the Megillah,” featuring Dr. Guila Benchimol and Rabbi Aviva Richman, offered in partnership with SRE Network and JCADA.

Purim is a joyful, fun holiday, but Megillat Esther contains dark tales of women’s victimization that are hard to ignore. As we think about the lessons of #metoo, how can Torah learning that acknowledges and centers the experience of women in the Megillah help us respond better to violence against women today?

We could not be in better hands. Dr. Guila Benchimol and Rabbi Aviva Richman look at gender-based violence and do not look away. They are beautiful, compassionate leaders who use their scholarship to hold the people who need to be held and to bring out the best in all who come to learn with them. Please join us. We need your voice in this conversation, too.

Please note that this sensitive conversation will be about sexual victimization. We acknowledge that these conversations may be difficult and painful. We encourage you to take the care you need for your well-being and safety if you would like to participate.
