Based on a true story and set in 1947, “An Israeli Love Story” explores the relationship between an aspiring actress and a kibbutznik who’s also a member of the Palmach, an elite fighting force. Eighteen-year-old Margalit, who loves theater and dreams of becoming an actress, meets Eli from Kibbutz Beit Keshet, and her world is never the same. Margalit is determined to get close to Eli and make him fall for her, but Eli has a girlfriend and is preoccupied with preparations for the dramatic events that will spark the birth of the State of Israel. Slowly, his barriers melt, and they set a date for their wedding. All is going smoothly—until Israel’s harsh reality steps in (93 minutes, with subtitles).
Both screenings feature special guest speaker Tom Cheatham, CFO of the JCCNS.
