We invite you to join us for the 20th anniversary celebration of the Greater Boston Jewish Coalition for Literacy (GBJCL) at our JCRC Celebrates Dinner.

GBJCL mobilizes the Jewish community to help elementary school children discover the joy of reading and meet their learning goals. Over the past 20 years, through partnerships with synagogues, organizations, day schools and local businesses, GBJCL has placed over 7,000 volunteers in high-needs schools to provide one-to-one tutoring and classroom support to over 10,000 students.

JCRC is proud to honor Mark Friedman with the Barry Shrage Community Builder award.

For over a decade, Mark Friedman has been a passionate supporter of JCRC’s Greater Boston Jewish Coalition for Literacy (GBJCL). Mark continues to spend every Tuesday tutoring students at the William H. Ohrenberger Elementary School in West Roxbury as part of GBJCL’s Temple Emanuel team.

The Barry Shrage Community Builder award is named in honor of Combined Jewish Philanthropies President, Barry Shrage, who has provided leadership and guidance to Boston’s Jewish community for more than 25 years. In his role, Barry works to create an inclusive, collaborative community that identifies and responds to urgent needs, while ensuring Jewish continuity. Through his own example, Barry inspires others to seek meaningful Jewish lives that are committed to tikkun olam (repairing the world)
