The Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Boston teaches an award-winning course on how to research your Jewish family history. The course is designed for beginners and for those who have started their family research.

The course will be held from 7-9:30 p.m. on eight Wednesdays between March 4 and May 6, 2020. Class is limited to 20 students.

Classes are taught by experts from the JGSGB and cover:

  • Basic research strategies and skills
  • Major online resources and software
  • Jewish migration history and changing European borders
  • Jewish names and traditions
  • Finding immigrant ancestors in the U.S., European and Israeli records
  • Identifying Holocaust victims and survivors
  • Fee access to Ancestry and MyHeritage for duration of course

Lectures are accompanied by individual help sessions and hands-on workshops on using online resources and genealogy software programs. Students will need to know how to do basic internet searches and how to log onto websites. Each student will need to bring a laptop or tablet to benefit fully from the class.
