Karen St-Laurent is a Montreal based author-composer-interpreter especially known as a Kirtan musician. Karen and her musicians Daniel and Gotta travel throughout Quebec leading their audience into magical musical experiences with Karen’s unique voice and sacred chants compositions infused with rock and folk.

Congregation Eitz Chayim is proud to welcome Karen St-Laurent for their first Kirtan South of the Canadian border.

What is a Kirtan?
In Karen’s own words, a Kirtan is a simple and wonderful way to meditate and celebrate life. The artists and the audience create the experience together joining their voices to become one Voice, one Heart. Because the Kirtan music is originally from India, most of the chants are in Sanskrit, but all form of chants from other traditions can be included in a Kirtan. Chanting in a foreign language like Sanskrit, Pali, Latin, Amerindian or Hebrew, allow you to immerse yourself in the sound. Without reference to your language, your mind can gently let go and the magic of the chants then happens. The Kirtans today are branching out of the traditional Indian music and are incorporating multiple musical styles from folk, rock and even hip hop! Kirtan is the universal language of the spirit, the chant of the soul.”

Concert will start after a short Havdalah service marking the end of Shabbat.
