Maccabee Bar, Boston’s first Hanukkah pop-up bar, is back for its second year, hosted by Backbar in Somerville. In celebration of the wintertime Festival of Lights, Naomi Levy, creator of Maccabee Bar, brings the Hanukkah-themed experience to Backbar featuring festive décor, unique flavored cocktails, classic bites and lots of wit.

This year, we’re celebrating over 12 crazy nights with new cocktails, such as the kugel-inspired “Have a Ball,” featuring cognac, cinnamon and crème fraiche, as well as some of last year’s favorites, including “The Hebrew Hammer,” featuring vodka, “leavened” sugar, lemon and raspberry, which takes its flavor from sufganiyot, the jelly-filled donuts traditionally eaten for Hanukkah.

Special bites will include latkes, as well as a range of other Hanukkah-themed snacks. Each Monday (Dec. 16 and Dec. 23) will feature a special guest appearance from Naomi as she joins the Backbar team behind the bar.

The Maccabee Bar will take over Backbar from Dec. 16-29 (closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). L’chaim!
