Welcome Shabbat with Havurah on the Hill! This virtual event is led by young adults across the community. After our creative Friday evening service, we’ll hear from trans activist Hannah Simpson, live from New York City.

Afterward, we will break into smaller rooms for conversation and dinner.

Register for the Zoom link.

Hannah Simpson is a nationally known writer and speaker on transgender identity who believes not hiding her past might help others to stop hiding their futures. Her pronouns are “she” in English and “היא” in Hebrew. Hannah’s insight into queer life and its intersections with Jewish faith have seen her invited to schools, businesses and even military bases, all of which started with the 2013 Yom Kippur morning drash she gave at Havurah on the Hill at the Vilna Shul. Hannah’s words can be found on Refinery29, The Guardian and elsewhere. She has been a guest commentator on MSNBC, Fox New York and appeared in segments of “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” and “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.” She was keynote speaker for the 2019 Women’s March on New York City, leads LGBTQ Birthright Israel buses and, during the pandemic, has been working as a patient care technician and mortuary technician in COVID-19 ICUs.
