Cinema grapples with levels of reality as well as themes from antiquity and frequently is in conversation with a biblical text. In “Cinematic Midrash: The Movies ‘Take’ on Biblical Text,” we will do a close reading of selected foundational biblical texts. Then we will screen award-winning movies from recent Jewish film festivals, as well as scenes from the superhero to unpack and further interpret biblical themes through the lens of modernity and social commentary. Artisan popcorn will be provided! The instructor is Dr. Lynne Heller.

This 10-week course will meet Thursdays from Oct. 24 to Jan. 16 (except for holidays). For financial aid and other questions, contact

Me’ah Select is a one-semester, in-depth exploration of a specific theme, text, personality or slice of Jewish history, taught at the college level but without papers and assignments. It is led by outstanding instructors from the Me’ah Classic faculty.
