The Consulate General of Israel to New England and the German Consulate General in Boston is hosting an international webinar and conversation to hear the perspectives of educational experts from the United States, Israel and Germany as to how their societies are coping with the challenges and what lies ahead when we return to a “new normal” in our schools.

Nowhere has the impact of the global pandemic been felt so strongly as in the realm of education: distance learning, the lack of human interaction, parents assuming the role of teachers, mental health issues, lack of teacher readiness—all of these have upended our schools like an earthquake.

About the panelists:

Professor Paul Reville: Dr. Paul Reville is the Francis Keppel Professor of Practice of Educational Policy and Administration at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, and is the founding director of its Education Redesign Lab. He served as the Massachusetts Secretary of Education under Gov. Deval Patrick from 2008-2013, establishing a new Executive Office of Education.

Dr. Maya Wizel: Dr. Maya Wizel teaches graduate students at Middlebury College in Vermont, and in Israel leads professional development training of school principals in the Jerusalem district and elsewhere. A self-described “educational hacker,” she is a researcher who’s involved with innovation in the educational arena.

Professor Birgit Eickelmann: As chair of the School of Pedagogy at University of Paderborn in Germany, Dr. Birgit Eickelmann’s work focuses on the digitalization of schools and teaching methods, as well as the development of school systems as a whole within the digital transformation. An advisor to German educational government ministries on digitization, she is integrating the challenges of redesigning schools during and after the COVID-19 pandemic into her most recent work.
