Celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month with Kerem Shalom! We will be screening “The Gay Marriage Thing,” written and produced by Kerem Shalom member Steph Higgins.

About the film:

Meet Lorre and Gayle, 30-something college sweethearts marking their 15th anniversary by planning their wedding in the first U.S. state to legalize same-sex marriage. Stephanie Higgins’ powerful documentary follows the couple through the chaos swirling around them, from pro- and anti-gay rallies to religious leaders and the chambers of the Massachusetts State House. “The Gay Marriage Thing” (2005, 47 minutes) captures what gets lost in most news reports: the human emotions behind the headlines. The film is captioned.

About the director:

In 2004, director and Kerem Shalom member Steff Higgins was inspired and angered by the local and national debate over “gay marriage.” Wondering if there was an argument against LGBTQ marriage that made sense, Steff took their camera to protests at the Massachusetts State House to find out.
