Is she a Rabbi or a cabaret singer? Rabbi Deborah Zecher is both. Come enjoy Havdallah and her lively, interactive musical program where the audience matches her songs to a list of sermon topics.

Rabbi Zecher has been singing all her life, primarily in the synagogue. In 1995, early in her 22 years as the Rabbi at Hevreh of the Southern Berkshires in Great Barrington, MA, she created Broadway Bible, a program linking familiar Bible stories with beloved Broadway show tunes, and presented it across the Northeast for 10 years. She continued to study cabaret and to present Jewish-themed musical shows around the region and beyond. She was recently nominated for Best Debut Show of 2018 at broadwayworld.com for her cabaret show called On Purpose at Don’t Tell Mama in New York City.

Describing her career as a Rabbi and a cabaret singer, she summarizes, “The liturgy gives us the tools to express deep theological hopes, thoughts and dreams — cabaret expresses all those in a secular way.”
