Swing Band Concert Dance

November 11, 2017 Stoughton $18.00 - $25.00
Vaughn Monroe Show – full cast

The 1940s come back for one evening when Ahavath Torah Congregation in Stoughton hosts the Vaughn Monroe Show. This swing band event features a comedian, talented 15-piece big band, a troupe of swing dancers and a vocal group that will impress. A light menu, beer and wine will be available for purchase.

This unique show transports the audience to October 1949, just after World War II. The Vaughn Monroe Orchestra, under the direction of Dan Gabel, performs the original hits of Monroe, along with the Moon Maids vocal group, dancers, comedian, and skits from the Camel Caravan radio and TV show. “Racing with the Moon,” “There, I’ve Said It Again,” “Ballerina,” “Let it Snow” and “Ghost Riders in the Sky” will all be heard using the original handwritten manuscripts through special arrangement with the Monroe family and New England Conservatory. Original band member and legendary guitarist Mr. Bucky Pizzarelli joins the outfit in a truly spectacular event. This ensemble promises to create an evening of entertaining time travel and “the voice that won the war.”

Dan Gabel has been hailed by The Boston Globe as “the real deal, [a bandleader] who looks and sounds like the 1940s.” Gabel is a bandleader, trombonist, arranger, historian, and educator. He has recorded four full-length albums. He also serves as the President and CEO of the American Big Band Preservation Society, Inc. Dan Gabel toured internationally with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, as well as with the Tommy Dorsey and Cab Calloway Orchestras. He is also an in-demand arranger and composer, commissioned by ensembles throughout the country.
