Teacher Workshop: Immigration, Refugees, and Democracy

Faculty from the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies and Re-Imagining Migration Project will lead a day-long educational workshop on the effects of immigration on world events, visions of diversity and inclusion, and our legal system. This workshop will explore the challenges faced by different groups of immigrants, including Catholics, Jews, Latino/a, Muslims, and Dreamers. During the day, educators will be introduced to primary sources and digital and traditional teaching techniques.

  • Professor Christopher Mauriello: Jewish Refugees on the North Shore During World War II
  • Professor Avi Chomsky: Latin American Immigrants and U.S. Policies
  • Professor Brad Austin: Reception and Rejection of Ethnic Immigrants in U.S. History
  • Professor Robert McAndrews: Immigration Law in the Age of Donald Trump

Professional development points are available through the School of Education at Salem State University.
