The Civil Rights Movement: History and Current Challenges

Led by Professor Brad Austin and other Salem State University faculty, this interactive workshop will cover key milestones in the history of the movement, explore key important questions about its leadership and strategies, and provide critical skills to teach this history. The workshop will also touch on the legacy of the movement and the unfinished work of expanding the American democracy to people of all races, sexual orientations and religions.

Participants will work with primary sources, watch clips from the award-winning series “Eyes on the Prize” and interact with experts in the field. Each participant will receive a free copy of a comprehensive, primary-document focused guide to “Eyes on the Prize.”

This event will be held in the Petrowski Room, second floor of Marsh Hall, Central Campus.
