In honor of Yom HaShoah, Belmont World Film presents the U.S. premiere of “The Man in the Basement,” a domestic thriller (in French with English subtitles), featuring a captivating story of an interfaith Parisian couple who decides to sell an unsanitary basement in their building that’s been in the family since before the Holocaust. When a man moves into the cellar and begins murmuring antisemitic and Holocaust-denying remarks, the couple tries desperately to cancel the sale.

The film is available online only beginning April 26. Join the online discussion on Monday, May 2, with Jennifer Cazenave, assistant professor at Boston University, where she is affiliated with the Elie Wiesel Center for Jewish Studies, and author of a book about Claude Lanzmann’s “Shoah.”

The screening is part of Belmont World Film’s 20th International Film Series, which features area premieres of some of the world’s top films. It runs both online and in-person at the West Newton Cinema and the Majestic 7 Cinema in Watertown through May 16.
