How does remembering Jesus’ Jewishness affect Christian approaches to suffering? For centuries, Christians have found comfort in associating their own suffering with that of Jesus. But what happens when Christians remember Jesus as a Jew who suffered?

Barbara U. Meyer explores this question in dialogue with Jewish and Christian voices critical of the notion of redemptive suffering.

Barbara U. Meyer is an associate professor of religious studies at Tel Aviv University. Her most recent book is “Jesus the Jew in Christian Memory: Theological and Philosophical Explorations” (Cambridge University Press, 2020). She has authored numerous articles on contemporary inter-religious dynamics and changing Christian approaches to law.
