This supportive and respectful peer dialogue will offer a safe, private and confidential opportunity for clergy to discuss the complex issues regarding interfaith weddings. Contemporary pastoral challenges will be presented within the context of a peer discussion of Jewish texts, ritual liturgy, halachah, and responses to change in the demographics of the Jewish community.
Together, we will wrestle with our responses to the growing number of interfaith couples seeking out Jewish clergy to sanctify their marriage and ponder how our decisions may influence Jewish continuity/Jewish commitment now and into the future.
Skills for communicating your position on interfaith weddings to premarital couples and the couples’ parents, as well as to your congregational Boards and members, will be the focus of supportive breakout groups with same movement colleagues.
This dialogue will be facilitated by Rabbi Howard Jaffe, Temple Isaiah, Lexington, Rabbinic Liaison to URJ Expanding Our Reach, President Massachusetts Board of Rabbis, with Rabbi Julie Zupan, Rabbinic Consultant to Reform Jewish Outreach Boston (RJOB) and Dr. Paula Brody, Director, URJ/RJOB Outreach Training Institute in collaboration with Greater Boston clergy.
Registration is $65pp and includes all program materials, morning and afternoon refreshments and a kosher lunch.
