What’s going on in Gaza? It is a disaster for Gazans who lack clean water, electricity and proper sanitation, in addition to a host of other problems. It is also a perennial threat to Israelis who live under the threat of rockets, fire balloons, underground tunnels and abductions. Gaza’s raw sewage drifts to the shores of Ashkelon. What are the leaders of Gaza thinking? What are the thoughts of ordinary Gazans? This seminar explores the politics of Gaza and its prospects for the future.

Dr. Ronit Marzan is an advisor to security bodies in Israel and a research fellow at the Chaikin Chair in Geostrategy at the University of Haifa. She has served 32 years in the Israeli intelligence community serving as a major in Unit 8200 and as an expert on Arab affairs in the Israel Security Agency (Shabak). She has also taught the “Havatzalot” program, which trains researchers for the IDF Intelligence Corps.

She is the author of the book “Yasser Arafat: Rhetoric of a Lone Leader.” Her upcoming book, “The Father, the Son and the Spirit of the Revolution: The Young Arabs in the Arab Spring,” has won the Bahat Prize for being a theoretical, original and high-quality manuscript. It will be published by Pardes Press and the University of Haifa.
