Join us for an artist talk with Shirah Rubin about her new community-engaged work, The Wisdom Exchange Art Project, at the Annex Gallery at Brookline Arts Center.
How is each member of a community both a receiver and giver of wisdom? Living with the COVID-19 pandemic has caused many to reflect on what we hold most dear. The Wisdom Exchange Art Project invites the Boston community to reflect and exchange letters of personal wisdom and together create ceramic vessels to contain that wisdom. It is inspired by the 75th anniversary of the discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls, which were ancient texts that were themselves preserved in ceramic jars for centuries. The Wisdom Project has to date engaged over 100 from ages 6-96.
The Wisdom Exchange Art Project is run by Shirah Rubin, an artist, educator and consultant with a studio based in Boston. She creates sculpture, installations, socially engaged community-based art and public art. With over 20 years of experience teaching art to adults and young children, high school and college students, Shirah has a keen understanding of creativity and human development. As a result, she is able to inspire and challenge participants accordingly. Shirah founded Co-Imagine Arts, which supports leaders, group organizers and participants in utilizing the arts as a transformative tool for creativity, personal growth and community engagement. She tailors her unique arts workshops to the custom needs of diverse groups and individuals.
