Happy Hanukkah!

I’m sure you have all noticed that the arrival of Christmas carols is creeping earlier and earlier (even before Thanksgiving!?!?!), and it got me thinking about Hanukkah songs, and the lack thereof. And then one of my favorite Tweeters, @itsdlevy of JewishBoston.com shared this amazingly adorable new “hipster” Hanukkah song. The song is by My First Earthquake, an indie, electro-rock band from San Francisco led by Rebecca Bortman.

In addition to the catchy beat, the song’s message feels very relatable for young Jews navigating the Christmas season. Somehow, it manages to acknowledge the tendency towards “Scroogitude” and still celebrate the holiday season for what it is.

While listening to the song for the 4th time on repeat, I got to wondering: Are there any other great Hanukkah songs written or performed by Jewish women? Please share them in the comments!
