Betsy Tarlin’s Boston roots go back to 1877 – just six years after JF&CS was founded – when her great-grandfather arrived in Boston’s North End from Poland. “Did he, like many other Jewish immigrants in Boston, turn to JF&CS for help after he arrived? Betsy wonders.
Examining her family tree, it becomes obvious that fundraising is in Betsy’s DNA. Her grandmother was one of the “brick ladies” who helped raise money to establish Beth Israel Hospital. Her mother was a tireless fundraiser on behalf of Brandeis and Hadassah. Her father was a president of Temple Israel and a founder of the West Roxbury facility of what is now Hebrew Senior Life. Now it’s Betsy’s turn to carry the torch to JF&CS.
Betsy started as Interim Senior Vice President of Development at JF&CS in February. “Being at JF&CS,” she says, “affords me the opportunity to give back to the community from which I came. Everything I’ve learned throughout the years I can apply here. It’s beshert.”
