It’s time to make Chanukah music

My kids love Top 40 music.

Consequently I hear a lot of it in the car. We jump back and forth from Kiss 108 to AMP 103.3 to and from everything. I know it all- Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Flo Rida, Taylor Swift. I even watch X-Factor, as some of you know from my live-tweeting (or DVR-tweeting) on Wednesday and Thursdays.

Amidst the cacophony of pop superstars, a new genre of music is filling the airwaves. ‘Tis the season of Christmas music. While the longstanding tradition of Jews writing popular Christmas music is well-established, the contribution of Jewish songwriters and musicians to excellent Chanukah music is completely underwhelming. Other than The Chanukah Song, can you think of one catchy Chanukah tune? I can’t.

So in the spirit of wanting to spark a massive creative outpouring of Chanukah music, I issue the following challenge.

I want a Chanukah mash-up. I want The Chanukah Song not for 1995, but for 2012. I want auto-tuned, Double-Rainbowed anthems about spinning dreidels.

You get it. Let’s do it.
