Kerem Shalom of Concord is pleased to announce that registration for 2020-2021 Hebrew school is now open. The innovative once-a-week program is offered tuition-free to members with students in grades one through high school, and kindergarten and holiday preschool programs are open to non-members for a nominal fee.
Whatever the fall brings, Kerem Shalom is excited to welcome students back—whether it be in the classroom, online (as we’ve been this spring) or a blend of both.
The dynamic Hebrew school program empowers students to find their own paths to authentic relationships with Jewish heritage and identity by connecting youth with one another, the synagogue community and the world at large through peer learning, participation in services and community celebrations and tikkun olam (social action) projects within the Greater Boston community. In addition to a robust classroom experience, students enjoy a creative music program, community activities and celebrations.
This summer, Kerem Shalom looks forward to welcoming Rabbi Sam Pollak as its first director of congregational learning. Pollak was ordained a rabbi at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and also received a master’s in Hebrew letters from Hebrew Union. Pollak will direct all Hebrew school, youth and family programs, working with Kerem Shalom’s long-time family educator Nancy Kaplan.
Kerem Shalom board president Elisabeth Sackton shared: “Rabbi Pollak will bring a strongly relational approach to Jewish education. He has an infectious enthusiasm and warmth that draws students, parents and teachers, and he brings a love for Jewish education and community-building. Kerem Shalom is fortunate to have Rabbi Pollak coming on board to direct our school and to create opportunities for learning for young children, teens and parents, as well as connecting across the congregation to our extensive adult programs.”
