Maimonides senior Elan Baskir is training to compete in the ING half-marathon (13.1 miles) in Miami on Jan. 30 to raise money for Yachad, the Orthodox Union’s National Jewish Council for Disabilities. He hopes to raise at least $3,600 (200 chai) for Yachad, which is dedicated to addressing the needs of individuals with disabilities and including them in the Jewish community. Elan, who is president of the Yachad chapter in Massachusetts, has been active in the program since ninth grade. “The half marathon is perfect for me,” he commented. “It combines my Yachad participation — helping others — with my dedication to the M-Cats.” He plays for all three Maimonides men’s varsity teams (soccer, basketball, and baseball), and covered the Physical Education Department’s “Run Around the Res” this fall in five minutes and seven seconds.
