This Father’s Day (Sunday, June 17), surprise a special dad in your family’s life—your own, your child’s, a neighbor or friend—with some creative and eco-friendly gifts made by your kids with recycled materials. Get started with these two ideas from Disney FamilyFun.
Tidy Trunk Tote
Help Dad keep his car neat, clean and clutter-free with a personalized storage box. Have your kids decorate a sturdy cardboard box (you’ll want to flatten it first to make it easier to decorate). When they’re finished, assemble the box, tape the bottom and tuck in the flaps. For handles, use a craft knife to cut 2 Xs through all the layers on each end of the box (a parent’s job). Push a pencil through the center of each X to create holes. Thread a 24-inch length of rope through each set of holes and knot the ends on the inside.
A Pad for Dad
Materials:
- Three sheets of plain letter-size paper
- Hole punch
- Thin cardboard
- Brown paper bag
- Glue stick
- Rubber band
- Small stick
- Newspaper
Instructions:
Cut three sheets of plain letter-size paper in half lengthwise. Fold the two sets of three sheets in half. Working on one set at a time, punch two holes 3/4-inches in from the fold and the side. Cut two pieces of thin cardboard the same size as the folded white paper, then trim about 1/8-inches from the short ends. Cut a 4 ¼ by 11-inch piece from a brown paper bag; use the glue stick to adhere it to the two cardboard pieces, leaving a small gap between them. Punch four holes 3/4-inches in from the gap and the side. Fold the brown paper cover around the two sets of white paper. Feed a loop of a 3 ½-inch rubber band through each hole, and slide a small stick through the loops. Attach newspaper letters to the cover with glue stick (or any other decorations your child wants to include).
