While the brochures are getting ready for their long journey to your mail box, tickets to all BJMF events are now on sale. And while it goes without saying, we’re incredibly excited about the quality and the range of events on this year’s schedule. So while other upcoming posts will focus on specific events, let me share a few of the special moments that make planning the Festival so rewarding.

First, I need to mention Pullitzer Prize winning composer and mensch galore, Yehudi Wyner. Yehudi is so excited to be able to present an afternoon of his father, Lazar Weiner’s, Yiddish art songs. And while rock’n’roll is more ‘my thang,’ these compositions are exquisite and quite moving. Not only will there be 4 incredible singers involved, Yehudi has also arranged for one of his father’s colleagues, Cantor Robert Abelsohn, to make a cameo appearance. Talk about going back to the source! With superb acoustics and one of Boston’s finest pianos, Old South Meeting House will be the perfect location for this historic concert. That’s on Sunday, March 4 at 4:30.

Another favorite moment was seeing Basya Schechter’s face when she learned she would be performing her Songs of Wonder concert, inspired by the Yiddish poetry of Abraham Joshua Heschel, at the synagogue where Heschel ofetn spoke and where his daughter still belongs. This is a beautiful new direction for Basya.

Clear your calendars. Check out some music you love. And maybe something you never imagined you could love. See you soon.
