You may know FiveThirtyEight blog founder Nate Silver as a wiz with baseball numbers, but this young statistician has brought his understanding of the meaning of these numbers far beyond the great American past-time and into the realm of political forecasting.  Silver has recently written The Signal and the Noise, a dense but user-friendly book that introduces us to the most successful forecasters in the world- from weather to baseball, pocker to stocks, Capitol Hill to the NBA. Oct 10: Counting on the Jewish Voter?

How will Jews vote this year and will it impact whether Obama or Romney is our next president? These questions have already produced headlines and bold predictions, but what do the numbers really tell us? CNN’s Bill Schneider and New York Times political analyst Nate Silver talk about the history of Jewish voting and whether this year will represent a dramatic break with the past.  Bill Schneider is a senior political analyst for CNN and is well known for his dissection of voting trends and election polls. Nate Silver is the author of the New York Times blog FiveThirtyEight: Nate Silver’s Political Calculus. His new book is The Signal and the Noise: Why Most Predictions Fail – But Some Don’t.

Young Adults are invited to join us for a special pre- program reception at 7pm.
