The Newton Centre Minyan was founded in 1973 as an independent, traditional, egalitarian minyan. Over the years it grew from approximately 35 families, meeting in members’ homes, to over 200 families, meeting at Hebrew College in Newton Centre. After Hebrew College sold its building in 2018, no consensus could be reached on an alternative space, and as a result, the Minyan split into two independent minyanim: Walnut Street Minyan and Minyan Ma’or, which meets at Temple Emanuel in Newton.
