Students as young as seven years old appreciate the wonderful relationship between The Rashi School and Hebrew SeniorLife. One second grade member of Rashi’s Mitzvah Makers, who visit monthly with residents at Hebrew Rehab, wrote the following report of a recent intergenerational activity:
“Oh boy, we’re getting to Hebrew Rehab.” I rode the bus with my good friend Lehaveet. We walked to the auditorium and said hello to the residents. All the people were really nice but some can’t walk or can’t see too good and some can’t hear well.
They feel young by singing with us. I loved singing Zum Gali Gali with them and from the stage you can see their hearts filling up with love. It was so fun to make music with them.
Next we had a scavenger hunt and asked questions to know the residents better and know in reality how they feel! I found someone who could gobble like a turkey and we laughed together.
We made pictures on a banner for them to remember us on Thanksgiving. We don’t want them to be lonely. It made me feel special to make people feel loved! When we got back to Rashi I asked others if they wanted to be a Mitzvah Maker too!
