In 2008 when Lane Berry (which later became Raymond James) Associate Ben Kaplan was offered the opportunity by his coworker to tutor students at a nearby school during lunchtime, he jumped at the chance. Community involvement had always been an important value for him, Ben recalled when I interviewed him recently about his start as a GBJCL Reading Buddy volunteer. Ben hadn’t previously thought it possible to volunteer as his job as a young associate often kept him at the office for 80—100 hours a week. However, Ben was particularly interested the chance to support students’ education, which, as he says, is “an effective way to impact the future.”
