You know the Cape for fabulous beaches (and summertime traffic), but it makes history on Sunday, Aug. 17, for a very different reason: Hyannis hosts the first-ever Cape Cod Jewish Culture Festival, with music, art and lots of food. Chabad Lubavitch of Cape Cod sponsors the event, which kicks off at 2 p.m.

“It’s not just about the food, music, or fun — though there’s going to be plenty of that. It’s about joining together in celebration of our rich Jewish culture with joy and pride. We’re excited to share vibrant Jewish music, art and cuisine with the entire Cape Cod community,” festival organizer Rabbi Yekusiel Alperowitz, director of Chabad Lubavitch of Cape Cod, said in a release.

On the menu: classic New York City deli from Mendy’s Kosher Delicatessen, famed for their “Larry David sandwich,” with pastrami, salami and brisket with hot sauce, jalapeños and, yes, cranberry sauce. Pair your sandwiches with Israeli wines, then browse an assortment of Judaica, jewels, paintings and crafts from local artisans — or bring your kids to get their faces painted.
