Galit and Yoel Konstantine, a couple with a flair for exotic flavors and incredible tastes, first came to the United States in 1998 on a joint program with Haifa University, Tadmor Culinary Institute and Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island. Galit and Yoel both graduated with honors and then garnered years of experience creating and hosting beautiful events in downtown Boston hotels.
In 2003, the Konstantines started Dushez Catering, which quickly became a highly-regarded kosher catering business across New England. Originally starting as a commissary in Woburn and later moving to the JCC in Newton, for the past 10 years Dushez has operated out of Hebrew College in Newton Centre. Dushez is renowned for providing its clients with delicious meals and personal service, working with clients step-by-step and guiding them with their event needs.
Like many local businesses, Dushez has been uniquely challenged by the pandemic and stay-at-home order that has crippled the region since March. Despite the ongoing challenge presented by COVID-19, Dushez has responded to the crisis in the Jewish community by providing low-cost Shabbat meals to families and communities in need, working closely with the Israeli-American Council in Boston and JewBer to do so.
Additionally, for Passover, they partnered with CJP in helping hundreds of families in the community, providing seder meals and seder boxes for the holiday. When asked to reflect on that experience, Yoel remarked: “Galit and I are here to help, and we appreciate that we are capable of helping. We are not here to count losses or gain new revenue because we are not the only ones coping with the loss and struggle; we are in this together.”
With the re-opening slowly underway in Massachusetts, Galit noted that “the future is unknown” for Dushez. “We miss celebrating with our customers in hotels, private halls, synagogues and their homes, and look forward to resuming our work with them as quickly and as safely as possible,” she said. “Our main goal for now is to help our community and our employees.”
