OK, OK. Perhaps chatting with Maren Kravitz, a personal trainer and co-owner of the fitness studio The Training Room, was a little self-serving. I’m definitely on the lookout for tips on how to get back to where I was nine months ago, before I had a baby. Kravitz and her business partner, Heidi Brown, just opened a second location in February.

created at: 2013-04-08Congratulations on the second location! Where’s the new spot and how did you end up choosing that location?

Our second studio is located at 373 Washington St. in Somerville—right on the Cambridge line. My business partner Heidi Brown and I were looking for the right opportunity to expand our indoor cycling, small group training and personal training services. This new location allows us to offer even more fitness programs and classes to our existing clients, while at the same time branching out into the Cambridge area.

I understand that your first location is graced with a mural by a rather famous artist. Can you explain that, and are there any plans for similar artwork for the new digs?

I believe that the Shepard Fairey mural is one of two remaining in the Somerville area. We are in talks with one of our clients about the possibility of another artist mural that would be displayed at our second location.

I just had a baby and am working to lose the weight. Any advice?

For many new moms and dads, a new baby can throw your fitness routine out the window. It’s important that once you are cleared to work out, you take the time to focus on building the stability back in your core, hips and glutes. This will allow your body to build strength, and in turn, lose the weight. It is often thought that just getting back in the gym and jumping on a cardio machine will melt the extra pounds away. At The Training Room, we focus on a combination of strength training, cardiovascular conditioning and a clean nutritional plan to help clients lose weight, gain strength and stay injury-free.

What’s your favorite pig-out snack? Ice cream? Cookies? Potato chips?

A trainer never tells!
