“One generation goes and another generation comes; but the earth remains forever.”
—Kohelet (Ecclesiastes) 1:4

As you prepare to visit with family and friends this winter, keep in mind that there are a few things you can do to stay green, whether you’re driving, flying or even staying at home.

Offset carbon emissions
Calculate the amount of carbon emissions your trip or household generates (try this calculator), and consider making a monetary donation to conservation and renewable energy projects to offset your carbon footprint.

Stay local at your destination
Whether home or away, buy groceries from local farmers and markets, and choose travel souvenirs or art from local merchants or craftsmen.

Travel green
Take public transportation or a shuttle bus to and from the airport, and if you’re traveling to a major city (or staying in Boston!), walk or use public transportation to get around. Choose trains instead of rental cars if you’re visiting a new city, and look for environmentally friendly hotels when possible.
