Looking for ways to help our Jewish community during COVID-19?  Many Greater Boston Jewish community partner organizations have volunteer opportunities to assist those in need, from virtual check-ins with isolated seniors to providing food and essentials for individuals and families and, of course, making donations to any number of emergency funds.

If you are healthy, have time and/or talent to share, check out these volunteer options directly with our community partners:

Congregation Mishkan Tefila (in partnership with 2Life Communities, Hebrew SeniorLife, The Rashi School, BU Hillel, Gann Academy and CJP)

Silverlining Buddy System: An Intergenerational Response: To foster connection and engagement during this difficult time, Congregation Mishkan Tefila will match the Boston-wide older generation with housebound college students (11th and 12th graders are also welcome) and young professionals for regular phone calls.

  • Share stories, wisdom and create new connections
  • Each senior/student pair will have twice-weekly phone calls
  • Guidance and support will be provided

To sign up for this buddy system, please reach out to the Support Squad by calling 617-332-7770.

Hebrew SeniorLife

Virtually visit with a Hebrew SeniorLife resident: Volunteer to be paired with a resident from either Hebrew SeniorLife or 2Life Communities to chat via phone or video about anything from favorite movies and books to places you have traveled. Click here to volunteer.

2Life Communities

Grocery shop for 2Life Community residents: Residents are looking for people to help them buy groceries. They’ll provide you with money and you’ll purchase their pre-selected items at the grocery store and drop the groceries at the front door of the building for the residents to pick up. Click here to volunteer.

Jewish Family & Children’s Service

Looking for a way to help at this critical time? JF&CS has a variety of meaningful volunteer opportunities to support our clients. Your caring will make a difference.

JF&CS Family Table:

Deliver food to clients in need on Sunday, April 5, in Waltham:

Volunteers pack and deliver groceries to clients. Strict social distancing guidelines are in place.

If interested, please fill out a brief Family Table Application. For questions, email lkatz@jfcsboston.org.

Card-Making Project:

Reach out to isolated older adults:

Write personalized “Thinking of You” cards that we can send to our isolated older adult clients. In the past, this generation primarily communicated through handwritten notes and letters, so your personally written note will be particularly meaningful.

If you are interested, contact Sue Spielman at sspielman@jfcsboston.org.

Social Media Engagement:

Opportunity to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities:

We are creating a library of activities for our clients who are at home, without structured daytime activities. Volunteers can record themselves on their phone doing an adaptive art project, dance, workout, yoga, song session, relaxation or meditation. Clients will be able to access the videos on the JF&CS YouTube channel.

To get involved, please contact Angie Waring at awaring@jfcsboston.org.

Amazon Wish List:

Provide basic needs for families with young children:

Our Amazon Wish List highlights our greatest needs around providing diapers, wipes and other essentials to our clients. You can purchase items directly from our Wish List or send us a gift card to help support our clients and their families.

Please contact aharder@jfcsboston.org with any questions.
