Take an Ethiopian jazz musician/singer, have him work with an secular Israeli bass player, and then mix them with three observant musicians and what do you get: GROOVES GALORE. That cross cultural melding of styles is the sound of Israel today. You hear it in Idan Raichel and Yemen Blues and Shlomo Gronich. And on Wednesday, July 27 you can hear it at the US premier of Shabate.

They’ll be performing at a special summer Boston Jewish Muisc Festival party at Johnny D’s in Davis Square Somerville. Tickets are just $15 in advance, $20 (cash only) at the door.  Best of all, your admission is going to support funding for next year’s Festival taking place March 1-11.

Come on out. Have some fun. And watch out fo my wife on the dance floor. She’s wild.
