If at first you succeed, why not try it again? That’s what the thinking was after the Boston Jewish Film Festival’s inaugural Short Films Competition held last year.
We ended up showing seven short films (films under 20 minutes), picked from an initial group of about 16 shorts. They ranged from documentary types to animation, from kids movies to off-beat holiday films.
The bottom line was that the event proved to be a big success. The crowd at the Coolidge Corner Theatre that night thoroughly enjoyed the films – David and Goliath, Grandpa Looking Like William Powell, Kosher, Starring David, The Bris, The Fig Tree and The Little Nazi.
The audience award winner was Starring David, a Dutch film about the product of an interfaith marriage, who celebrates his bar mitzvah.
The bottom line was that we’re going to do it all over again. So, if you have a short film that’s under 20 minutes, send your film to us. If you know anyone who might have a potential award winning film on their hands, spread the word.
