Fun reading is always welcome, especially in stressful times like these, with the pandemic, isolation and Oval Office instability.

Just arrived: the ideal antidote, a chuckle-inducing book titled “Mostly Mishegas: How Trump Tried to Make my People Greater Than Ever.”

Some of the ways the president supposedly attempted to reach that goal include: planning to make gefilte fish the U.S. national fish, trading Borsht Belt humor with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky (“Take my wives, please”), critiquing the Six Commandments (the most he might possibly observe) and making Tisha B’Av fun again.

He contemplates conversion to Judaism and would have done it except for one ritual requirement. And he speculates how, if in the time of future King David there had been a national Slingshot Association (a la today’s NRA), the Israelites would have been a force to be reckoned with. He also volunteers advice to would-be shul presidents, sisterhoods and men’s clubs on how to be elected and re-elected.

The book comprises columns by me that were published in the San Diego Jewish World. While they appeared under the heading “Just Kidding” and only imagine the president’s words, thoughts and deeds, they are all completely in character.

Donald H. Harrison, San Diego Jewish World editor, predicts that the book, “with Trump’s many malapropisms, especially when discussing Jewish subjects, will be loved by Democrats…and which some Republicans (mercifully away from the view of the White House) may gleefully distribute among themselves.”

The perfect Chanukah gift, “Mostly Mishegas” is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
