L’chaim! Boston’s first Hanukkah pop-up bar, Maccabee Bar, is back for its third year, this year hosted by Bow Market in Somerville. In celebration of the wintertime Festival of Lights, I’m bringing the Hanukkah-themed experience to Bow Market featuring festive décor, unique flavored cocktails, classic bites and lots of wit.

This year, we’re celebrating all December long with new cocktails such as the “Kosher Nostra,” a riff on a Negroni featuring the flavors of tzimmes, and the “Hot Date,” a hot toddy featuring Israeli flavors (cardamom and date), as well as some of past years’ favorites, including the “Hebrew Hammer” (vodka, “leavened” sugar, lemon and raspberry), which takes its flavor from sufganiyot, the jelly-filled doughnuts traditionally eaten for Hanukkah. Food will be provided by celebrated chef Louis DiBicarri, with snacks from his own Humaari Provisions, as well as latkes and other Jewish-themed snacks. In addition to savory bites, there will, of course, be jelly doughnuts, this year coming from Kate Holowchik’s Lionheart Confections.

This year, Maccabee Bar offers more than one way to celebrate with “Maccabee at Home,” a take-home box so you can celebrate from the comfort of your own home! Each box contains two single-portion signature cocktails, hummus and pita by Humaari, mini jelly doughnuts by Lionheart Confections, as well as an assortment of games and activities. “Maccabee at Home” boxes are $49.99 and must be pre-ordered online. Pick up times will be offered Thursdays and Sundays. See the Maccabee Bar website for more information.

Maccabee Bar holds providing a safe environment for its staff and guests at the utmost importance. A healthy holiday season is the best way to celebrate. Partnering with Bow Market means we feel confident that we are putting you in great hands as they have continually demonstrated their commitment to safety. Bow Market has invested in ensuring their indoor dining experience is as safe as possible. From custom-built dividers to a tricked-out HVAC system that brings in outside air and turns the air over four times every hour, to weekly testing for its staff, they take care of their guests like mishpochah—just from a safe distance! And as a reminder, be a mensch—if you’re not feeling well, stay home!
