ConnecTech is a year-long fellowship for MIT and Technion Jewish students. The primary focus is on student interaction—creating personal bonds between small core groups of students at each institute and strengthening a sense of Jewish peoplehood. On Wednesday we went to the Technion. In the morning, we toured two biomedical engineering labs before stopping at the Technion Visitor Center. The labs were very similar to those we would find at MIT, which was interesting because we are halfway across the world.
At the Visitor Center, our student tour guide was an Arab Muslim studying computer science. It was interesting to hear about her experience as part of a minority population at the Technion. It was similar to our experiences in the United States because we do not get any of our religious holidays off.
We also heard an entrepreneur talk about the app he is working to create to help connect neighbors in Haifa. At the end of the day, we went to the student festival for the Technion and Haifa University. Our favorite act was Static and Ben El, an Israeli duo. It was cool seeing Israeli culture and they definitely know how to have fun. We saw the students in the morning studying hard but by the evening, they were dancing and singing along to the music.
Today was an awesome day visiting the Technion.
