When Temple Sinai of Marblehead put out a call last week for baby blankets, bottles, diapers, and more for newly orphaned children and homeless families in Israel, the North Shore community responded.

“The response was thoroughly amazing,” says synagogue executive director Susan Weiner. “People really rallied and came together.” In addition to items for children, Temple Sinai collected toothbrushes, toothpaste, socks, underwear, and other personal hygiene items to send to those in need in Israel. Most of the items went to the Newton-based Israeli American Council (IAC), which has been shipping goods directly to Israel.

Now, as people ask how they can help with donations, Weiner is directing people to the IAC’s Amazon wish list, which is filled with gear needed by Israel Defense Forces soldiers. “Every little bit helps,” says Weiner. “In times like these, people need to feel like they’re part of a solution.”
