What a season of arts and theatre at the JCC this year! 

created at: 2011-10-19Selected Shorts LIVE opens the season on Saturday, October 29 (8pm), based on the weekly show on public radio which is broadcast on more than 130 radio stations to 300,000 listeners.  Wishes, Dreams and Insults: Rebel Jewish Writers is the theme of the show at the JCC.  Hosted by Isaiah Sheffer, Broadway/TV/movie actress Patricia Kalember and  Emmy award winner John Shea will perform short stories by writers including Isaac Bashevis Singer, Grace Paley and Israeli author Etgar Keret.  Set as a cabaret, the evening will bring to life these wonderful authors. Cost is $24.

Martinis & Merriment:  Old (and Young) Jewish Telling Jokes. Saturday, Nov 12 (8pm).  A uproariously funny evening that features Sam Hoffman (architect of the wildly popular website Old Jews Telling Jokes); nationally known comedian Jon Fisch (originally from Newton) and Rabbi Moshe Waldoks (author of The Big Book of Jewish Humor).  Includes comedy, jokes, discussion about humor, and audience participation. Cost is $26.

Ryna Greenbaum JCC Boston Jewish Book Fair Festival Day: Sunday Nov. 20 (11am-5pm).  A day-long event featuring a keynote brunch with New York Times reporter Diana Henriques (Wizard of Lies- Bernie Madoff and the Death of Trust) in conversation with Hank Phillippi Ryan; Thriller! featuring thriller writers Joe Finder, Len Rosen and Douglass Starr and moderated by James Fox; and an authors salon moderated by Jonathan Wilson featuring an array of local authors including Adam Schwartz, Robert Strauss and Peter Zheutlin. Cost is $15 for keynote brunch and $8 to attend all of the additional events.

Poetic Rhythms:  Jazz and Poetry: Saturday, December 10 (8pm). Former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky is joined by jazz musicians Stan Strickland (sax), John Lockwood (bass) and Rakalam Bob Moses (drums) for an evening of poetry, jazz and an instant poetry slam featuring the innovative software QUICKMUSE. Cost is $20.
