Last week over 50 ReachOut! volunteers grabbed a life jacket and a paddle, and went to rid the Charles River of invasive water chestnut plants. The results were impressive, as the team picked 9,000 pounds of water chestnuts.

Trouble picturing how much that really is? Well, as a team we picked the weight of:

  • 4.7 VW Beetles, or
  • 52.94 Elvis Presleys (during his thin years) or 30 Elvis Preselys (during his fat years), or
  • 1 full grown male elephant and 5 baby elephants, or
  • 23.5 William “The Fridge” Perrys, or
  • 1,125 8lb burritos!

And, in case “The Fridge” (and other references to the early 80’s and the Chicago Bears) go over your head, we present: the Super Bowl Shuffle.

Be sure to check out our Facebook Page for photos from the event! (And, while you’re there, be sure to like us! It’s a great way to keep up to date on ReachOut!, and it’s fantastic for our self-esteem).

Over the next week or so we’ll be updating our website with more information about our upcoming volunteer cycle—and, mark your calendar for our kickoff event on the evening of September 8th!  The kickoff is a great time to learn more about each of our volunteer sites, as well as what makes the ReachOut! program so fantastic.  More information is avalible on our website!
