Temple Emanuel was filled with music, joy, learning, and meaningful connection during a truly unforgettable artist-in-residence weekend with acclaimed Jewish musical artist Noah Aronson, held May 15–17. Through song, storytelling, prayer, and spiritual reflection, Noah helped create a weekend that brought congregants of all ages together in celebration, learning, and heartfelt community.
With deep gratitude to the Shack Family Fund, whose generous support made the weekend possible, Temple Emanuel welcomed Noah for a series of uplifting and immersive experiences that transformed worship and gathering into moments of inspiration and connection.
The weekend began on Friday evening with a moving Shabbat service that filled the sanctuary with prayer, music, and pure joy. Noah joined Rabbi David Wilfond, Cantor Rachel Reef-Simpson, Cantor Caitlin McLaughlin, and the Soul Sisters, the vibrant women’s chorus of Temple Emanuel, in leading a spiritually rich and uplifting service that energized the congregation and created a powerful sense of communal celebration. Adding to the beauty and tenderness of the evening was a very special baby naming, making an already meaningful night even more memorable.
On Saturday morning, congregants gathered for “Encountering Prayer Through Music & Meaning,” an engaging Shabbat study session led by Noah alongside Rabbi Wilfond, Cantor Rachel, and Cantor Caitlin. Through thoughtful discussion, storytelling, song, and reflection, participants explored the emotional and spiritual depth behind familiar prayers, gaining fresh perspectives on words and melodies they have sung for years. The session fostered meaningful dialogue, curiosity, and spiritual exploration—along with warm community connection over bagels and conversation.
Saturday evening brought a beautiful close to Shabbat with an all-ages Havdalah service and concert. Noah’s powerful music, soulful storytelling, and uplifting presence invited attendees into a deeply moving and joyful experience of shared song and reflection. Voices were lifted together as the congregation marked the transition from Shabbat into a new week, followed by a warm dessert reception that allowed families and friends to continue connecting and celebrating.
The weekend concluded on Sunday morning with a spirited celebratory sing-along featuring Temple Emanuel’s religious school students. The joyful congregational songfest brought together children, families, clergy, and community members in a vibrant expression of gratitude and celebration. Musical tributes honored school staff, families, volunteers, and the weekend’s generous sponsors, reinforcing the deep sense of appreciation and belonging that defined the entire experience.
Known as one of the most influential Jewish musical artists of the last two decades, Noah Aronson brought his unique ability to blend music, storytelling, humor, and spiritual insight into transformative communal moments. A Berklee-trained composer whose songs such as “Am I Awake?” and “Let There Be Love” have become part of modern Jewish liturgy around the world, Noah’s presence reminded the Temple Emanuel community of the power of music to deepen prayer, spark reflection, and strengthen connection.
From uplifting worship and meaningful learning to joyful song and shared celebration, the artist-in-residence weekend was a powerful reminder of what happens when community comes together through music, spirit, and heart. Temple Emanuel extends its heartfelt thanks to Noah Aronson, the Shack Family Fund, clergy, staff, volunteers, and all who participated in making this extraordinary weekend one to remember.
