Lonely and homesick in Ghana as the Jewish holiday period of Rosh Hashana was beginning two years ago, Filmmaker Gabrielle Zilkha was able to make an amazing connection. She spent the holidays with the Sefwis of Ghana, a community that had been practising Judaism in Ghana for centuries but only discovered twenty years ago that they were part of a global religion with millions of followers.

Today Zilkha is working on “From the Four Corners of the Earth”, a film that will document the Sefwis’ journey of self discovery including, hopefully their trip to Israel, a long-held dream, planned for the fall of 2013.

Gabrielle Zilkha is director and executive producer of the project, and has recently launched a Kickstarter campaign with a goal of $15,000 to help fund the first phase of the films’ production in Ghana. The campaign ends on December 22nd and needs support from the Jewish community. Also for the 8 days of Chanukah, donations on behalf of someone you love will receive a personal Chanukah “Certificate of Recognition”.
